Ben-Gurion Remembers - Documentary, 86 minutes, Israel 1973

Director: Simon Hassera

At the end of his life, David Ben-Gurion returns to the political and personal landmarks of his life journey, to the places and events that shaped the country and his life from the day he immigrated to Israel in 1906.

In the film, Ben-Gurion meets with statesmen Yigael Yadin, Ariel Sharon, Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres, Teddy Kollek, and the tragic heroes of the Yom Kippur War, Golda Meir and Moshe Dayan, just before the war broke out. Ben-Gurion speaks with them about the moments that have become our history.

Alongside the political memories, Ben-Gurion meets and jokes with friends from his youth. In rare archive footage we see Churchill, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, De Gaulle and others.

The film was shot in 1972/3, shortly before his death. The film premiere was set for Yom Kippur 1973, but the war that broke out changed the face of the country and its agenda, and the film was shelved for 42 years.

The restored film was screened on May 1, 2015.
